How To Cope With Cravings In Suboxone Treatment

Rebecca Pena

Suboxone treatment is literally a lifesaver. It gives people who are addicted to opioids a chance to break free from their addiction and start fresh. However, like all treatment programs, there can be some bumps along the road. One of the most difficult things about suboxone treatment is dealing with cravings.

There are a few things that you can do to cope with cravings when they come up. These tips will help you through treatment.

Remember Your Strength

Cravings are tough to deal with because they can be so intense. It can feel like your whole world is consumed by the desire to use again. But it is important to remember that cravings are just a normal part of recovery. They don't mean that you are weak.

Get Rid of Memory Triggers

The first step is to get rid of anything in your life that reminds you of using. This might mean getting rid of some people from your life, as well as physical reminders. If there are certain places that you associate with using, it might be best to avoid them for a while.

You can also work toward this by making new, positive memories. Spend time with people who make you feel good and do things that make you happy. The more positive experiences you have, the more associations you can build with new activities.

Talk to Your Support System

Your support system is there for a reason. These are the people who love you and want to see you succeed in treatment. When cravings come up, reach out to your support system. They can help talk you through the craving and provide a distraction from it.

Create a Distraction

When a craving hits, it can feel impossible to focus on anything else. But it is important to find a way to distract yourself. This can be anything from reading a book to going for a walk. The important thing is to find something that will take your mind off of the craving.

Talk to Your Doctor

If you are having a hard time dealing with cravings, talk to your doctor. They can help you find other ways to cope or make adjustments to your treatment plan.

Cravings are a normal part of suboxone treatment, but you can get through this part of treatment. It all starts with taking the first step, to begin using suboxone under the guidance of a medical professional. For more information on suboxone treatment in your area, contact a professional.

About Me
Exploring Counseling Sessions For Parents

Hey everyone, my name is Lori Grffin. When my son was born, I was completely unprepared for the difficulties of raising a sensory deprived child. The stress of trying to parent a difficult child definitely takes its toll. Eventually, I had a nervous breakdown and ended up enrolling in individual counseling sessions. The counseling appointments helped me work through the emotions generated while coping with fits and meltdowns from my son. I emerged from each session better prepared to provide my son with the support he needed. I also learned how to pay attention to how I was feeling during the process. I created this site because I want to share the benefits parents receive from going to counseling sessions. Thank you.
