Drug Intervention: Why This Step Is So Important In Rehabilitation

Rebecca Pena

When it comes to helping a loved one with their drug addiction, a drug intervention is the first step. This is the step where loved ones actively confront the drug addict and, in a safe or neutral environment, tell the person how their addiction is affecting not just them, but the people around them. The process is daunting, often scary, and can be something most people would like to skip when it comes to helping a loved one overcome addiction, but, the reality is, that without an intervention, a person may never see that they truly need help with their addiction until they are either gravely ill, injured, or in jail. You don't want any of these reasons to be why your loved one confronts their addiction, so an intervention is helpful; here are some reasons why this step is so important in rehabilitation.

It shows your loved one that you won't support them anymore

One of the big reasons for a drug intervention is that it forces a loved one to realize you and other family members will no longer be supporting them in their drug addiction. This means no more money, no home to stay in, and no other support. This can be the wake-up call your loved one needs to realize that they can no longer go on with their drug use.

It shows your loved one you won't watch them die

A drug intervention is a reality check not just for your loved one, but for you as well. It's a time when you realize that your loved one is no longer able to function in normal society and can no longer work, take care of their family, or do other things because they are too far into their addiction. You have to be able to prepare a hard talk for your loved one so they know that you refuse to stand around and watch them die due to their reckless behavior and increasing drug use.

A drug intervention is your way to stand tall with your other loved ones to show someone you care about that you will not allow them to continue their destructive behavior. The first step in getting a drug addict into a rehabilitation center is a drug invention. It can be supervised by a counselor to ensure that the intervention goes well and that everyone has their emotions and feelings heard.

About Me
Exploring Counseling Sessions For Parents

Hey everyone, my name is Lori Grffin. When my son was born, I was completely unprepared for the difficulties of raising a sensory deprived child. The stress of trying to parent a difficult child definitely takes its toll. Eventually, I had a nervous breakdown and ended up enrolling in individual counseling sessions. The counseling appointments helped me work through the emotions generated while coping with fits and meltdowns from my son. I emerged from each session better prepared to provide my son with the support he needed. I also learned how to pay attention to how I was feeling during the process. I created this site because I want to share the benefits parents receive from going to counseling sessions. Thank you.
