Going Through A Divorce? Why You Should Arrange For Pediatric Therapy For Your Kids

Rebecca Pena

Divorce is never easy. The process can be even harder on children, especially if they don't have an effective support system. Unfortunately, you can't be an effective support system when you're busy trying to navigate a divorce, which is where pediatric therapy comes into the picture. If you and your spouse are going through a divorce, now's the time to schedule therapy for your kids. This is especially important even if you've already scheduled family counseling sessions. Pediatric therapy sessions for your children give them access to help for their individual needs. Here are just four of the ways pediatric therapy will benefit your children during the divorce.

Alleviate Stress and Anxiety

If you're going through a divorce, and you're experiencing stress and anxiety, your children might be experiencing the same feelings. If that's the case, therapy can help them cope with those feelings. Children often experience feelings of stress and anxiety in ways that are difficult for them to process. That's where pediatric therapy comes into the picture. A pediatric therapist can help your children alleviate the stress and anxiety they're experiencing.

Resolve Behavioral Issues

If your children are exhibiting behavioral problems now that you're going through a divorce, pediatric therapy can help. It's not uncommon for children to act out during a divorce, or to experience physical and emotional symptoms. If your children have experienced sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, or are acting out, it's time to seek pediatric therapy sessions for them. Therapy sessions can help resolve those behavioral issues that your children are experiencing during the divorce.

Ensure Safe Space for Feelings

If you're going through a divorce, and your children don't fully understand the changes, consider seeking therapy for them. Your children might be experiencing feelings and emotions that they're not able to process. Or, they might not know how to talk to you about their feelings. If that's the case, therapy sessions can give them the space they need to share their feelings. Not only that, but their therapist can give them the guidance your children need to explore their feelings and emotions regarding the divorce.

Reduce Risk for Parental Alienation

If you and your spouse have filed for divorce and you're worried about parental alienation, a pediatric therapist can help. Parental alienation can undermine the relationship between parents and children. A pediatric therapist can identify the signs of parental alienation, and help to reduce the risk of occurrence.

About Me
Exploring Counseling Sessions For Parents

Hey everyone, my name is Lori Grffin. When my son was born, I was completely unprepared for the difficulties of raising a sensory deprived child. The stress of trying to parent a difficult child definitely takes its toll. Eventually, I had a nervous breakdown and ended up enrolling in individual counseling sessions. The counseling appointments helped me work through the emotions generated while coping with fits and meltdowns from my son. I emerged from each session better prepared to provide my son with the support he needed. I also learned how to pay attention to how I was feeling during the process. I created this site because I want to share the benefits parents receive from going to counseling sessions. Thank you.
